Pattern 80

Saturday, May 2, 2015
This pattern combines one of my quilt block patterns with one of my half drop patterns, the fleur de lis.  These are the steps I took to create it.

Step 1 - Create a new two inch by two inch file.

Step 2 - Fill this with Pattern #17 from my January 25 blog post.  Paint Bucket Tool, Pattern checked in the Options Bar.

Step 3 - Create a new layer, Layer -> New -> Layer, and fill it with pattern #37 from my February 19 blog post.  Image one below.

Step 4 - On the Layers Palette, select the original background layer, and using the Magic Wand Tool, select the black parts.  You can do this in one step by having Contiguous unchecked in the Options Bar.

Step 5 - Using the Paint Bucket Tool again, fill the black areas with gold or any color of your choice.  Pattern unchecked and Contiguous unchecked in the Options Bar.  Image two below.

Step 6 - With your selection areas still intact, select the fleur de lis layer on the Layers Palette. Now select the inverse of your selection, Select -> Inverse.  Fill the green with the same color you used in Step 5 above.  See image three below.

Step 7 - Go back to your original background layer, and fill the white areas with a hot pink color or any color of your choice.  See my fourth image below.

Step 8 - Reselect the fleur de lis layer on the Layers Palette.  Again, reverse the selection area, Select -> Inverse.  Now fill the remainder of the green areas with the same color you used in Step 7 above.  See my fifth image below.  That completes your pattern.  Now Select -> All, and Edit -> Define Pattern from Selection.

Step 8 - The sixth image below shows the pattern filled into an eight inch square.
