I guess I should start by introducing myself. My name is Judith Ahlborn, but most people call me Judy. I consider myself a digital, textile, and mixed media artist. Having a painter for a father and a seamstress for a mother, I grew up learning to create things. I studied art in college and finished my degree in Textiles and Clothing. As what happens with a lot of people I know, I didn’t end up spending my career in my field of major at all. I worked in Information Technology for many years, and most of my co-workers had degrees in other areas as well.
After getting the opportunity to retire
early from corporate life, I decided to return to my artistic roots. I was pleasantly surprised to see how the
world of art making had evolved over the years, particularly with the use of
digital technology. How great for me to
discover that I can combine my love of art, sewing, and computers into my world
of being creative.
So why have I decided to create this
blog?
I recently read an article about an
artist, Kent Youngstrom, in an email newsletter from Cloth Paper Scissors. I’d
like to quote what he had to say.
Don’t wait for clients, don't wait to be debt free, don’t wait for the right situation, for things to settle down; for your kids to go to school, leave the house, or get out of diapers. Don’t wait for fewer hours at work, don’t wait for summer, don’t wait for winter, don’t wait to settle down—don’t wait.
So there you go! What an inspirational statement for anyone wanting to do something and having a hard time deciding when to start. I shouldn’t wait to start a blog, I should just do it now. I also shouldn’t wait till I think I am an expert at what I do because that will never happen. I want to challenge myself to create more and learn more, and I hope you will enjoy taking this journey with me. Plus, who knows where this will lead me?
