More 2014 Kaleidoscopes

Sunday, August 8th, 2021

I haven’t gotten a lot of other things done for the last two weeks, but it has been very exciting watching the Olympics.  Now that that is over, I want to show you just a few more of my kaleidoscopes that I really like before moving on to discuss my 2015 calendar.  These were made by combining multiple kaleidoscopes in layers with cropped shapes and feathered edges.  I liked these so well I made a set of coasters out of them.  I hope you like them too.

October, November, and December 2014 Kaleidoscopes

Sunday, July 18th, 2021

Here are my kaleidoscope images for the last three months of my 2014 calendar, October, November, December, plus the cover.  Now that you have seen all of the images from 2014, I would like to point out which ones have the same black overlays.  If you look closely you will see what I mean when I say that even when the overlay is the same, the overall look is completely different based on the kaleidoscope beneath it.

October and June have the same overlay.  December and August, September and May, and the Cover is the same as July.

April, May, and June Kaleidoscopes 2014

Monday, June 28, 2021

Life is gradually getting back to something more normal these days as my month of June has been very busy, and I realized I haven’t posted anything this month.  Since my technique for my 2014 kaleidoscopes is the same the whole year, I’ve decided I will simply post several at a time.  Then I have some other kaleidoscopes that were not on the calendar, but I really liked them and I will show you those later.  Here are the images for April, May, and June of 2014.  Enjoy!

March 2014 Kaleidoscope

Monday, May 31, 2021

I try to do my blog posts weekly on Sundays, but due to the long weekend I for some reason forgot that yesterday was Sunday.  It just seems harder all the time to know what day of the week it is.  Anyway, catching up with this week’s blog post I have my kaleidoscope image from March of 2014.  Using the same technique as January and February, I chose a lower layer image and altered the colors to greens to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.  I then added my overlay on top.

February 2014 Kaleidoscope

Sunday, May 16, 2021

Moving on with my 2014 calendar images, this is the kaleidoscope I used for February.  I somewhat tried to use images that were in the color or colors of the season or the holiday of the month.  This one has a lot of red tones to represent Valentine’s Day.  Since I used the same technique as in my January image, you can refer to my May 9th blog post for a description of how I created it.

January 2014 Kaleidoscope

Sunday, May 9, 2021

First of all let me say Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms in the world.  May you have a lovely day doing what pleases you and you get to spend some time with your loved ones.

I’m now moving on to 2014, a new year and a whole new series of kaleidoscope images.  For this year’s calendar, I came up with something new and different.  I got on a roll with this technique and created all twelve months of kaleidoscopes the same way.

Each kaleidoscope is actually two images.  The lower layer is a regular kaleidoscope created usually with some type of flower photo.  I may have enhanced the colors or added a Photoshop filter to it.  Next, I created a kaleidoscope using a black and white drawing of some type.  I then selected the white part and deleted it.  What was left was just the black, kind of like if we were to cutout snowflakes from black paper.  Depending on how clean the black lines were, some of the white remained along the edges.  That is why you see the white outlines around the black.  I then simply placed the black ‘snowflake’ over the original colorful kaleidoscope, and there you have it!  The combined image looks totally different than either of the two by themselves.
