Next up in my 2015 Calendar is my image for the month of July. This is a piece I did back in 2012 when I did my first year of 52 weeks of art. It is a very simple piece, but it was a fun experiment. I had some floral home decorating fabric that was left over. Since I was making an 8 x 10 piece, I used a readymade picture mat with an 8 x 10 opening as a view finder. I scanned it over the fabric to find a floral arrangement that made a good composition. Having plenty of fabric with lots of repeats, I cut out three of the same ‘composition’. I used a light wash of acrylic paint and painted over each one in a different color allowing the flowers to show through. I did this one in yellow, and one in pink and one in turquoise. I then fused batting to the back and stitched the floral pattern. I framed and hung all three together as a set. I got my idea from Andy Warhol’s pictures of Marilyn Monroe where he did the exact same image multiple times in different colors.
